Crochet. What is Crochet you might ask? Is it the same as knitting? This seems to be a common question I get when I tell people that I crochet. Short answer, no it is not the same as knitting. In fact, I regular have to tell people that I do not know how to knit. They always seem to give me the same look, you know that look, that look that says “You’re crafty, you can do anything!” In actuality, I have know idea how to make that, and I would like to keep knitting with the knitters, they do it much better than I.
The difference between Crochet and Knitting is quite simple really. Crocheting is when patterned fabric is made by looping yarn with a hooked needle, or as we crocheters call it a crochet hook. Knitting is when fabric is make by interlocking loops with either knitting needles or by a machine.
The common folk relates knitting to beanies they find at Target or Walmart. Crocheting is more like the lacy Doily they find on their grandmother’s dinning room table. However, Crocheting can be made to look like knit, but most people don’t know that. It’s a crocheter’s secret. Crochet is more than lacy thin fabric made for decoration. Through my blog posts, I will prove this to you, I will show you all the beautiful things that are crocheted but not thin and lacy. Simply because Doily’s are not my specialty.
